Peep's New Friend is the twenty-fifth episode of season one in Peep and the Big Wide World along with Wandering Beaver, which comes before it. It first aired May 14, 2004 and is written by Sarah Durkee with the storyboard by Greg Hill.

Peep meets a caterpillar and discovers that some relationships are bound to change.

Expanded summary[]

The episode starts with the sun and a cloud in the sky before showing Quack napping, Chirp practicing her flying and Peep all alone. Peep then says hi to some stuff before noticing what he thinks is a walking stick. When Peep goes to it, the thing says hello to Peep so goes to tell Quack about it. Quack isn't interested at first, but finally decides to go see what Peep found. When Peep shows Quack what he found, the thing says that he is a caterpillar. Peep and Quack watch the caterpillar eat before Quack leaves while Peep stays to keep his new friend company. Chirp arrives and asks if Peep wants to see her almost fly, but Peep tells her that he is watching the caterpillar and it's exciting so Chirp watches the caterpillar as well. After some time, Chirp leaves while telling Peep to call her when the milkweed seeds fly. When Peep asks the caterpillar milkweed seeds fly, the caterpillar says eventually so he hears. Peep then gets sleepy.

When Peep wakes up, he doesn't hear the caterpillar eating so he looks and sees the caterpillar isn't there. When Quack and Chirp arrive with a berry, Peep tells them what happened. Quack then notices a green thing so Chirp thinks the caterpillar is in it. Peep asks if the caterpillar is in the green thing, but doesn't hear anything. Peep sadly leaves and Quack and Chirp goes as well. After a long time, the green thing becomes a brown thing.

In the summer, Chirp hides at the place where Peep found the caterpillar when the thing moves surprising her. When Peep arrives, Chirp tells him what she saw. The thing moves again surprising Chirp and Peep. A butterfly then comes out of the brown thing. The butterfly sees Peep and reveals that he was the caterpillar he met before and is now a butterfly. The butterfly then tells Peep and Chirp that he is going south and that he will see them there. The episode ends with Peep, Chirp and the butterfly leaving while the narrator says things change when enough time passes: caterpillars fly, leaves fly and milkweed seeds fly and so will Chirp some day.
