Expanded summary[]

One morning, while Chirp and Quack are walking together, Quack tells Chirp that there is nothing better that's faster, bluer, then himself. Chirp says he may be blue, but he is not very fast. Quack asks her if she would like a chance at racing Quack. Quack is a little bit surprised when she says yes, but once Chirp realizes it is a swimming race, she says that's not fair. Quack doesn't see how it's not fair, so they both go to Peep, asking him for advice on what is a "fair race."

Peep didn't know an obstacle that could be well for Chirp, who hopped well, or Quack, who swam well. So he went to ask the other animals what they thought about a fair race. Squirrel says a fair race would include climbing and leaping, The Rabbit says a fair race would include hopping, especially up and down hills. The ant says a fair race should be in dark tunnels, Squeak and The Rabbit agree on it. Beaver Boy says a fair race should be in water, and on land, and then they should chew down a tree.

After asking all the animals, they all think that they are faster than Quack, so they all decide to race him. Peep marks the starting line, and the finish line, and he announces the race. All the animals begin fast (except for Newton), which leaves Peep in a big cloud of dust. As the race starts, The Rabbit appears to be winning. Beaver Boy is second place, until he gets distracted and the other animals run past him. Once he gets to climbing up past the rocks, Beaver Boy lets everyone else go in front of him, which tells us he doesn't very much care about winning. The Rabbit, who is still in first place, gets to the grassy hills, but since she didn't pay attention on where to go, she runs away from the course, thinking that's the next place to go.

After she leaves, Squirrel, Squeak, Quack, and Ant follow up behind her, which leaves Chirp in last place, except for Newton. She trips over a rock, and rolls down the grassy hill, while Beaver Boy is sliding down on top of Newton. Chirp, Quack, Squeak, and The Ant run to the top of a seesaw at The Playground, when they realize they are up high, and can't get down. The Ant wants to win the race, so he jumps on the seesaw, hoping that it will fall. Newton and Beaver Boy also climb up the seesaw, and it all tumbles over with all their wait. Quack and Chirp continue running, and Quack tells Chirp that nobody will be able to cross his own pond.

Once they reach the water, Chirp stops, but Quack takes a big splash into his pond, then he realizes that Newton has already swam to the end of his pond. Peep announces Newton as the winner. The other animals all catch up and stop at Quack's pond, where Chirp is sitting. Chirp laughs at Quack for not winning. After the big race, Newton becomes known as the fastest animal around, while Quack still remarks that he is faster than Chirp on water, even if she is faster than him on land.

Trivia[]

  • Newton might have won the race, but he still remains the slowest character in the show.
  • This episode is a reference to The Tortoise and the Hare, as Newton might be the slowest animal, but he won the race anyway, as Quack was dawdling.
