Title card[]

The title card shows Chirp grabbing some acorns from her pile & giving them to Peep one at a time while counting.

Condensed summary[]

Chirp starts a collection of acorn hats and is determined to prove that her collection is bigger than Quack’s.

Expanded summary[]

Peep is seen drawing his two friends Quack and Chirp in the dirt. Suddenly, an acorn falls off a tree and hits Quack on the head. Chirp follows after it, but Squirrel finds the acorn too. After fighting over it, the acorn breaks into two parts. The Squirrel gets the hat, and Chirp ends up with the bottom part of the acorn. They soon trade and the Squirrel gets the bottom, and Chirp gets the hat.

Over the days, Chirp began collecting all the acorn tops while Squirrel kept the other halves. Peep goes over to her bush and asks how many she has. Chirp mentions that every time she tries counting something, something ends up distracting her. So the two decided to count them out together. But by the time they get to 3, the one thing that distracts them is Quack, who doesn’t believe that she has a lot in her collection compared to all the leaves in a tree. Chirp states that while that is true, she does have more hats than what she started with. Quack then states that it isn’t as big as his collection.

Quack leads them over to his secret bush to show them his collection, which are 2 slices of bread. Chirp argues that while his collection is bigger in size, she has more stuff in hers, and sets out to prove it.

Peep and Chirp head back to her bush to count out the hats. But they stop at 8, since neither of them can remember what comes after that. So instead, they put all the acorn hats in two piles of 8 (making a total of 16). Chirp declares that her collection is bigger than Quack’s, but Quack refuses to believe it.

So Peep and Chirp bring the acorn hats over to Quack, stacking them on top of their heads. To retaliate, Quack then chews up the bread, making it into 4 stacks of 4 pieces (for a total of 16). Chirp then sorts her collection into 4 stacks of 4, but it’s still the same. Peep notices that the two of them both have 4 stacks of 4, so they each have the same number of things. Still competitive, Chirp and Quack think about breaking their things into small pieces, but Peep immediately intervenes by telling them that their collections are great just as they are and shouldn’t destroy them.

In the end, the two leave with a compromise. Chirp decided that her collection was great for wearing and Quack agreed that his collection was good for eating. Meanwhile, Peep has started a collection of his own; a collection of drawings featuring ‘the many moods of Quack the duck’.

Trivia[]

  • The Narrator's ending line, "the many moods of Quack the Duck", could be a title reference to The Many Moons of Quack the Duck.
